Jason Kidd hasn’t had a great start to his NBA coaching career.

If the 3-10 beginning of the Brooklyn Nets’ season wasn’t bad enough, a rising locker room mutiny has added to the mess Kidd has on his hands as the coach of a high-expectations team.

Kidd looked to get rid of at least one albatross Tuesday night when the Nets visited the Toronto Raptors. Brooklyn was poised for a win after taking a two-point edge into the final seconds, but those seconds then managed to include just as much anxiety for Kidd as the rest of the season.

Kidd, who has heard a lot of chatter this year about how much harder it is to coach good teams in tight games than to play, had to watch the Nets hold off the Raptors. Close shots, tipped balls — Brooklyn didn’t give its embattled coach any favors.

When it was all over, Kidd’s reaction showed perfectly what it must feel like to have one thing go right for once.
