Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez’s Awful Miss Will Hurt Quest for More Playing Time at Manchester United (GIF)

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez is thought to be one of the deadliest finishers in world soccer, but you wouldn’t know it from watching this miss.

Hernandez failed to convert the easiest of scoring chances Tuesday, and it won’t help his case for more playing time at Manchester United.

Early in the second half of United’s UEFA Champions League game against Real Sociedad, Hernandez ran onto a cross from teammate Shinji Kagawa and shot at an open goal from about six yards out. Yet, he somehow managed to put his shot over the crossbar. The Mexican marksman reacted with the appropriate level of disbelief.

Hernandez, 25, has  struggled to get regular minutes at United over the last 15 months, as Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are ahead of him in the pecking order. On Sunday, he caused an uproar by re-tweeting a story linking him with a move away from United. Misses like these will do a better job paving the way for his United exit than social media pseudo-agitation will.

The United-Sociedad game ended in a 0-0 draw.
