Jesus Navas and his Manchester City teammates meant business when they took the field against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Navas scored 14 seconds after the Premier League game kicked off. It was Navas’ first goal for City and the second second fastest of the 2013-14 Premier League season — just one second behind the goal Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic scored on Nov. 2.

City striker Sergio Aguero intercepted a pass from Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and shot from 22 yards out. Lloris saved Aguero’s drive, but Navas pounced on the rebound and delicately placed his one-time into the far corner of the goal.

It was a harbinger of things to come as host City routed Spurs 6-0. Navas, 28, scored City’s first and last goals, opening his Premier League account in spectacularly symmetrical fashion.

Retired Tottenham defender Ledley King holds the record for the fastest goal in Premier League history. He just scored 10 seconds into Spurs’ 3-3 draw with Bradford City in December 2000.
