In perhaps the least shocking news of the night, something went wrong for the Buffalo Sabres.

Fortunately, their latest mishap didn’t result in a loss, not yet anyway, but it did throw a wrench into legendary play-by-play man Rick Jeanneret‘s plans for the night. As the longest-tenured voice in NHL history, the Hall of Fame broadcaster had probably thought he’d seen it all, but on Tuesday he got to see it from a different, much more frightening view.

Because of an elevator malfunction at the First Niagara Center, Jeanneret was unable to get up to the press box in the Buffalo stadium, but the minor setback didn’t deter the professional from doing his job. Sporting a quickly fashioned helmet that even featured a protective mask, Jeanneret joined Rob Ray in the broadcaster’s section between the benches to call the game.

The protective gear proved necessary too, as Jeanneret was welcomed to his new spot by Jordan Nolan of the L.A. Kings who crashed into the broadcaster after getting checked by Rasmus Ristolainen during the second period.

Check out Jeanneret getting acquainted with his new surroundings in the video below.
