LeBron James and David BeckhamCan you imagine David Beckham and LeBron JamesĀ on the same team? The fantasy sports scenario could play out in real life in Miami.

James is in discussions with Beckham about potentially getting involved with the retired soccer star’s Major League Soccer expansion team in Miami, CBS Miami reports.

“There’s some interest on both sides,” James said. “David has become a good friend of mine over the last few years. I think it’d be great for this city to have a football club for sure. So there’s interest on both sides. But it’s preliminary talks but there is an open dialogue.”

Beckham has reportedly chosen Miami as the city in which he will base his MLS franchise. The former England captain has an option to buy an MLS franchise at a discounted price of $25 million (Ā£15.4 million). He is reportedly in the final round of negotiations with the league and investors, and is expected to make an announcement around Christmas.

Exactly what role James would play is unclear, but the basketball superstar is excited about the prospect of an MLS team in Miami.

“It could be huge, but you never know,” James said.” I think this is a great town for soccer. Thereā€™s a lot of soccer players here. A great youth of soccer players here and people love the city, so that would definitely help.”

James’ involvement could be a boon to Beckham’s Miami MLS venture, as his public support would help create a buzz. MLS failed once in South Florida. The star power and resources James and Beckham bring to the table make it unlikely that it will happen again.
