A first-round pick out of Duke, Mason Plumlee has been giving out autographs and posing for pictures with fans for his entire career, but the 23-year-old wanted to see how it felt to be on the other side of the sometimes-intruding interactions.
Teaming up with Sports Illustrated, The Brooklyn Nets rookie flipped the script in New York City and approached random people in the park, asking them for their John Hancock’s instead of the other way around.
The 6-foot-10 forward didn’t receive a whole lot of love during his endeavor, frightening people and catching them off-guard more than anything else, but the rejection that came his way did make for some entertaining moments.
While most denied his requests — including one gentleman who resembled Walter White, which Plumlee aptly pointed out — some agreed to his specific pleas, signing for his brother, writing a “motherly” kind of message and autographing in just the right spot on his T-shirt.
New to New York, Plumlee largely went unnoticed but one fan who did ask him what team he is with now provided the best part of the short video as the new member of the Nets answered him, then asked him who he was working with. Turns out, he’s in real estate.
