Unless there’s a major upset in the final weeks of the college football regular season, the Ohio State Buckeyes probably won’t get an opportunity to play in the BCS national title game even if they finish undefeated.
The Buckeyes currently rank third in the latest BCS standings, and trail both No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Florida State by a considerable margin. This is one example of how frustrating the BCS system can be, especially when more than two teams are undefeated late in the year.
On Monday, Ohio State wide receiver Evan Spencer shared the amount of confidence he would have in his team if it played the Crimson Tide or Seminoles in Pasadena.

Florida State would be a difficult matchup for Ohio State given its impressive size, superior skill and edge at quarterback with freshman Jameis Winston arguably being the favorite for the Heisman Trophy. As for Alabama, the Buckeyes would be heavy underdogs in any BCS title game matchup with the two-time defending champs. The last two times that Ohio State played in the national championship game, the Big Ten school was easily defeated by two SEC opponents (41-14 to Florida in 2006, 38-24 to LSU in 2007).
It’s great to Spencer’s confidence in his teammates, but this comment is probably one he’d like to have back.
