Bill Belichick wouldn’t comment on the controversial no-call from the end of the Patriots-Panthers game on Monday night, at risk of being fined by the league. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher faces no such penalty, giving him free reign to talk about the call during his Tuesday press conference.
During his presser, Fisher was asked about the officials’ decision to pick up the flag on Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly for bear-hugging Rob Gronkowski on Monday night. And the 19-year head coaching veteran seems to be siding with the Patriots on this one.
“I personally feel like the flag went down for a reason, and it looked like a foul to me,” Fisher said, via Rams.com. “So, that’s my opinion. Because I was not on the sideline, obviously, I can voice my opinion [without getting fined].”
NFL coaches are restricted from publicly discussing officiating in their own games and can face hefty fines for speaking out against any individual officials or calls. They are not, however, restricted from speaking about calls from other games, so Fisher is at no risk of penalty for his comments. Although, a stern talking to from Roger Goodell or someone in the league offices certainly isn’t out of the question.
