Alfredo Aceves can be a little nutty. Then again, aren’t we all a little cuckoo from time to time?
Aceves at least has the benefit of also being an effective pitcher when everything’s clicking, even if 2012 and 2013 offered more lows than highs for the polarizing hurler. That potential apparently has some teams keeping tabs on the right-hander with free agency in full swing.
According to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford, Aceves, who is working out in his native Mexico, is drawing interest from multiple teams. The Red Sox reportedly aren’t among those teams.

Aceves, who turns 31 in December, went 4-1 with a 4.86 ERA in 11 appearances (six starts) in 2013, and went 2-10 with a 5.36 ERA and 25 saves in 69 relief appearances in 2012. Aceves, who is capable of both starting and pitching in relief, was a valuable pitcher in 2011, though, as he went 10-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 55 appearances (four starts).
Toward the end of his Boston tenure, Aceves became known more for his unique personality than his on-field performance. He was outrighted off the Red Sox’ 40-man roster in July after clearing waivers.
