Report: Jose Bautista Trade Being Pursued by Phillies, Who Would Send Domonic Brown to Blue Jays

The Blue Jays’ big remodel last season didn’t work out, with Toronto finishing last in the American League East with a 74-88 record despite lifting a handful of vaunted players and their salaries from the Marlins going into the 2013 season.

Toronto is now looking to retool and give it another try next season in the tough AL East, but the Jays aren’t pursuing trades for any of those new players (who got moved out after just one year of underachieving in Miami) just yet.

The Blue Jays instead seem primed to flip one of their biggest stars from the last few years. Howard Eskin of FOX in Philadelphia reports that Jose Bautista, who caught on with Toronto and has hit 152 home runs for the club over the last four seasons, is the center of “serious talks” between the Blue Jays and the Phillies.

Domonic Brown, 26, just wrapped up his fourth season with the Phillies. He’s a .255/.320/.445 career hitter.
