Jacoby EllsburyThe Rangers look like a team to watch right now.

According to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Rangers are hot after free-agent catcher Brian McCann, while some general managers reportedly think that Texas is still interested in center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that improving the offense is Rangers general manager Jon Daniels‘ top priority right now.

McCann and/or Ellsbury would certainly help boost a Texas offense that sputtered late in the year. McCann has seven All-Star selections and five Silver Slugger awards on his resume, and is considered the premier catcher available on the open market. Ellsbury, meanwhile, is a dynamic leadoff hitter who is considered by most to be the best outfielder available in free agency.

Ellsbury’s agent, Scott Boras, is reportedly seeking a deal similar to Carl Crawford‘s seven-year, $142 million contract for his client, while it’s long been speculated that McCann is also seeking a deal in excess of $100 million.
