Free agents are starting to come off the board.
Tim Hudson is closing in on a contract with the Giants, according to multiple reports. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the deal is for two years and $23 million.
Rosenthal notes that there’s still language to be resolved before it’s a done deal, but it seems like Hudson will soon join a Giants rotation that already includes Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum. The Giants had also talked with free-agent starters Bronson Arroyo and Dan Haren, according to Rosenthal, but ultimately decided to move on Hudson.
Hudson missed the final two months of the 2013 season with an ankle injury, but has long been one of baseball’s most consistent starters. The right-hander went 8-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 21 starts this season, and owns a 205-111 record and 3.44 ERA in 427 appearances (426 starts) over the course of his 15-year career.
Hudson, who was drafted by Oakland in 1997, has spent the last nine years in Atlanta. The Braves reportedly had interest in re-signing the 38-year-old, but failed to match the Giants’ multiyear offer.
