Hasn’t Tim Tebow done enough to the New Jersey area already? Now, he’s closing down City Halls — well, sort of.
A photo of Tebow was found in a suspicious letter addressed to Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop on Monday, causing City Hall to be evacuated for nearly an hour, according to NJ.com. The envelope of the letter also contained a mysterious white powder, which was likely meant to look like some sort of chemical or biological threat, leading to the evacuation.
The letter was addressed to “Steve Fulop, family and friends,” according to the report, and was opened by a mayor’s aide. Some white powder fell out along with the letter, causing the evacuation and the arrival of the Jersey City hazmat team to inspect the envelope. The substance was deemed to be harmless after multiple tests, although officials are still unsure exactly what the powder is.
The exact contents of the letter were not revealed, but the report says that the envelope contained some “spiritual stuff. Heaven stuff. A picture of Tebow.”
Tebow played for the New York Jets last season, after being traded from the Broncos in exchange for a fourth-round pick during the offseason. Tebow didn’t do much to help the Jets’ offense, though, throwing just eight passes and not scoring a single touchdown in 12 games. His presence stirred up a quarterback controversy that lasted throughout the season, which also seemed to impact former first-round pick Mark Sanchez‘s psyche. The Jets finished just 6-10 in his lone season with the team.
Tebow is currently a free agent after failing to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster out of training camp. Jacksonville Jaguars fans have been clamoring for their team to sign the hometown hero, but the team has yet to make any serious overtures to the former Heisman Trophy winner.
