Tom Brady Curses Out Official After Patriots-Panthers Game Ends With No-Call, Penalty Flag Being Picked Up (GIF)

Whether the Patriots should have received a pass interference or holding call on the final play of Monday night’s game against the Panthers is very much in question. Whether the referees should have thrown a flag and then picked it up without explanation is not.

The Patriots were beside themselves after Monday night’s game ended on a no-call — after a referee appeared to make a call against Luke Kuechly for holding Rob Gronkowski on the final pass attempt. A flag was tossed, but the officials scooped it up and then announced there was no flag on the play before trotting off the field.

That didn’t sit well with Tom Brady. He already thought the Patriots should have gotten a penalty call, and his attention kicked up another notch after the flag was taken back and the referees declared the game over and started to leave.

Brady chased the officials toward the tunnel, and he could be heard making his opinion known — with a well placed F-bomb — on the ESPN broadcast.

The referees explained their reasoning after the game, but the damage was done for a Patriots team that has already lost once this year on an interesting call (against the Jets). While the non-call on Gronkowski will be endlessly debated, everyone can likely agree that it would have all gone down better had the original flag not been thrown and picked up without further reasoning — including Brady.
