High school basketball star Cliff Alexander trolled the Illinois Fighting Illini on Friday when he made his highly anticipated decision on which school he would attend for the 2014-15 college basketball season.

In front of a televised audience on ESPNU, the Chicago native was going to announce his choice by putting on one of the four hats placed on the table in front him.

After reaching for the orange Illinois hat and picking it up briefly, Alexander quickly put it down and grabbed the Kansas hat. It was a bold decision to tease the fans of his home state’s university, but it’s hard to blame him for choosing Kansas.

The Jayhawks are one of the elite college basketball programs in the nation every year, and head coach Bill Self does a wonderful job turning freshman into first-round picks in the NBA draft. Alexander is ranked No. 3 on ESPN’s Top 100 list of the best players in the 2014 class.

Watch him troll Illinois in the GIF below, with a hat tip to SB Nation.
