Warren Sapp played against Richie Incognito just once in his career, but the Hall of Famer said that one game was enough to give him an idea of Incognito’s character.
Sapp said Tuesday on The Dan Patrick Show that Incognito, then a rookie with the St. Louis Rams, kicked him and called him racial slurs during a game against Sapp’s Raiders in 2006.
“I beat [Incognito] up so many times it don’t even make sense,” Sapp told Patrick. “One time he kicks me in a game and calls me the N-word. And I look at him and say, ‘Oh, you want me to punch you in the mouth so [the referees] kick me out of the game.’ I said, I got a better plan for you. I’m going to beat your quarterback so they cut your [butt].”
Sapp said Incognito’s slur didn’t fluster him, though, knowing that the lineman’s intention was to provoke a reaction, and hopefully a penalty.
“It’s a term of endearment where I come from,” Sapp said.
