Baylor has done many things in recent years to show the college football community that it’s a legitimate contender, but none can rival the new stadium the Bears will call home starting next year.
Serious construction is underway near Lake Brazos, where the 45,000-seat palace is slowly rising up. It’s due to open Aug. 31 as the Bears kick off the 2014 season against SMU. Baylor Stadium replaces Floyd Casey Stadium, which has been used since 1950.
In a video taking a look at the progress so far, senior project manager Jim Heley says 46 percent of the work is done, with much of the concrete and steelwork finished. But Baylor fans don’t have to take his word for it — Baylor is sparing no expense on the presentation of the project, offering a website dedicated to the construction. The site includes a countdown to the grand opening and a “construction cam” where fans can watch work being done (if it’s not Thanksgiving, that is). They can also get a 3D view from any seat.
