Punching a man who is wearing a helmet is never a good idea. It’s especially ill-advised to do so just inches away from a referee.
Bills rookie receiver Robert Woods made the poor decision to throw a punch at Dolphins safety Reshad Jones on Sunday while the two were tangled up on the turf. Fellow Buffalo wideout T.J. Graham pulled Woods away before the scuffle could escalate, but umpire Garth DeFelice has a clear view of fist hitting face mask. Woods was assessed a personal foul and immediately ejected from the game.
The ejection, coupled with a first-quarter injury to Marquise Goodwin, left Buffalo without its two two wide receivers for much of the second half. The running game picked up the slack, though, as C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson combined for 188 yards on the ground in a 19-0 win for the Bills. The Miami loss clinched the AFC East title for the Patriots.
