Bruins fans don’t really have many grievances to air when it comes to their team’s games on Dec. 23.
The B’s rolled to a 6-2 win on Monday night, and in the process, they added to what’s a pretty funny (and very coincidental) trend that has developed over the past season. They have shown the ability to dominate when they play on Festivus over the last decade.
For those not familiar, Festivus is defined (by Wikipedia) as “an alternate to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas holiday season.” The cult holiday was made famous by the popular sitcom Seinfeld. Traditionally, Festivus is celebrated on Dec. 23, a date in which the Bruins have had a bunch of success on lately.
The Bruins have now won their last five games on Dec. 23 with the win over Nashville. Not only have the Bruins won those games, they have won them convincingly. Here’s how they have fared on Festivus over the last five full seasons.
2013 — 6-2 win versus Nashville
2012 — No Festivus game because of the lockout (I gotta lot of problems with you people)
2011 — 8-0 win versus Florida
2010 — 4-1 win versus Atlanta
2009 — 6-4 win versus Atlanta
2008 — 2-0 win versus New Jersey
Add it all up, and you get a 26-5 goal differential, which is pretty insane. What does it all mean? Almost certainly nothing at all, as is the case with most stats that date back more than a year or two. Regardless, there’s no denying the mounting feats of strength the Bruins have displayed on Dec. 23 over the last five or six years.
