Bruce Arians wasn’t happy with the way the Cardinals-Eagles game was officiated over the weekend. He was so irked by some of the calls, in fact, that he even sent a tape of 15 plays to the NFL offices for official review.
While Arians kicks dirt and blames the officials for his team’s loss, Eagles cornerback Cary Williams, who was on the other side of Sunday’s outcome, took a different perspective on why Arizona lost, even calling Arians a crybaby for all his whining.
“Let’s not be crybabies, man,” Williams said, per Phillymag.com. “I thought the refs kept them in the game to some degree at times. But it’s football, man. It’s about going out there and executing. If they came in here with a different attitude, maybe not so nonchalant, thinking it was going to be a cakewalk.
“I’m not big on teams sending stuff in, and ‘This is what needs to be called,'” Williams continued. “Play the game, dude. It’s football, man. Either you come in and win or you blame it on the refs. Don’t blame it on the refs, blame it on your preparation that week. I’ve never been a fan of coaches sending stuff into the refs unless it was blatant. To me I didn’t think there was anything blatant out on the field.”
Even beyond pure preparation, Williams and the Eagles’ secondary appears to be at least one reason why Philadelphia came away with the win. Williams recorded four tackles and two pass breakups in the game, and the Eagles’ defense forced three Carson Palmer turnovers, which helped turned the tides during the game.
The Eagles ultimately pulled out a 24-21 win, although a questionable holding penalty on Cardinals linebacker Matt Shaughnessy kept Arizona from giving their offense a chance to tie or win late in the fourth quarter.
