Turning a baseball park into a hockey venue capable of hosting 16 games isn’t an easy task.

The Boston Globe took a behind-the-scenes look at the work that went into making the third edition of Frozen Fenway — which also will include an outfield “Monster Sled” for the first time — a reality.

The first of two main events, a Hockey East doubleheader featuring Merrimack-Providence and Boston College-Notre Dame, will take place Jan. 4, but the outdoor hockey showcase actually gets underway six days earlier.

The Holy Cross and Bentley University men’s hockey teams will face off Friday, Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a high school tripleheader on Dec. 31 and a women’s hockey matchup between Northeastern and Harvard on Jan. 2. (Click here for a full schedule of events.)
