Steve Mason has been excellent in net for the Flyers this season, and at the end of Thursday’s game against the Canadiens, Philadelphia’s No. 1 goalie showed that he’s not afraid to be physical with opposing forwards.
As time expired in the third period, Canadiens winger Brian Gionta approached Mason and was cross-checked up high by the Flyers goaltender. Second-year forward Brendan Gallagher then came to his captain’s defense and tackled Mason.
The Flyers won the game 2-1 in an impressive performance just one night after losing 7-2 to the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks.
