Georgia Wide Receiver Chris Conley Planning Campus-Wide Lightsaber Duel for Fellow Star Wars Fans

chris conleyChris Conley is not your stereotypical Division I college athlete.

A junior wide receiver who leads the 8-4 Georgia Bulldogs in catches and receiving yards, Conley is also a self-proclaimed nerd — and one with a serious affinity for all things Star Wars.

Conley is not shy about his love of the George Lucas creations, even going as far as to show up to a UGA gymnastics meet in full Jedi costume (that’s him there in the hat). Now, he’s calling other Peach State Star Wars fanatics to join with him to create the greatest lightsaber battle Athens, Ga., has ever seen.

“I’ve actually had a lot of response,” Conley told the Athens Banner-Herald of his plan to stage and film a series of lightsaber duels on campus. “A lot of people really want to do this. It’s something I’m kind of spearheading. It’s been a goal of mine before I graduate. This is just for me, just for fun. All of the people who are involved like that sort of thing and we accept our nerdiness.”

And if you think the wideout is just doing this to fool around, think again. Conley told the Banner-Herald that he has already drafted team videographer Frank Martin to handle the filming duties, and he has spent much of the past few weeks discussing the details with fellow aspiring Jedis on Twitter.

The event is still in its planning stages, but take a look at some of the work Conley has put in so far in the tweets below.
