Through nearly 14 full NFL seasons, Jaguars center Brad Meester never caught a pass. That changed on Sunday.
Meester, who has spent his entire career in Jacksonville, is set to retire at the end of the season, making Sunday’s matchup against Tennessee his final home game. To commemorate the occasion, the Jags decided to put the ball in the big man’s hands.
With Jacksonville driving midway through the first quarter, Meester lined up at tight end as an eligible receiver. After letting his defender through, the center turned, received a screen pass from quarterback Chad Henne and rumbled nine yards for a first down. Henne hit the Jags’ real tight end, Marcedes Lewis, for a four-yard touchdown later in the drive to give Jacksonville an early 7-3 lead.
It was quite the curtain call for the career Jaguar, whose 195 games played ranks 19th among active players.
