Take notes, kids. This is what they call smashmouth football.

James Develin, an undrafted rookie out of Brown who came into Sunday without an NFL carry to his name, was given the ball at the 1-yard line with the Patriots trailing Houston 17-7 early in the third quarter.

The fullback’s initial lunge toward the goal line was snuffed out by the Texans defense, but Develin would not be denied. Develin never stopped churning his legs, allowing him to rip through the arm tackle of Whitney Mercilus and plow past Shiloh Keo and into the end zone for his first career touchdown. The score sparked a comeback by the Patriots, who outscored Houston 27-14 in the second half to pull out a 34-31 win.

Who said the fullback position is dead?
