Rex Ryan emerged unscathed from the war zone that is Black Monday, and his players are apparently very happy about it.

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson visited the Jets locker room after Sunday’s season-ending victory over the Miami Dolphins to personally inform the team that Ryan will return as head coach in 2014. Johnson’s announcement set off a raucous celebration, as Ryan’s troops let out cheers of joy before embracing the beaming coach in a full-team bear hug.

New York’s 20-7 win, which included a touchdown run by stud rookie defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson, brought the Jets to 8-8 on the season, allowing the team to finish at .500 or better for the fourth time in Ryan’s five-year tenure. It also carried with it the added bonus of knocking division rival Miami out of playoff contention.
