Jim HarbaughWith the 49ers in the midst of a playoff race, the last thing Jim Harbaugh wants to talk about is a college job.

“Are you trying to be funny?” Harbaugh said Thursday when a reporter asked him about the reportedly soon-to-be open head coaching position at the University of Texas, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

It was reported Wednesday that Harbaugh and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin are among potential candidates for the Longhorns job should Mack Brown indeed step down or be fired. Harbaugh, however, would not comment on these rumors.

“I don’t ever talk about any job other than the one I have,” he said.

Harbaugh, who led San Francisco to an NFC title last season, has coached at the collegiate level in the past, spending four years as head coach at Stanford before leaving for the NFL in 2011. He helped revitalize the Cardinal program, which will play in its fourth consecutive BCS bowl game this season.

The Niners are on a three-game winning streak and currently hold one of the two wild-card spots in the NFC. They’ll travel to Tampa Bay for a date with the Buccaneers on Sunday.
