Wes Welker never got a cool nickname from Tom Brady.
The Patriots quarterback told Tom Curran from Comcast SportsNet that he calls Julian Edelman “Minitron,” after “Megatron” Calvin Johnson. Sounds like an action figure.
There’s good reason for Edelman to have a cool nickname. The fifth-year receiver has 70 catches for 711 yards and four touchdowns. That’s two more catches and six fewer yards than Welker, by the way.
Edelman is on pace for 93 receptions, 948 yards and five touchdowns. With a contract at just $1.1 million with incentives, Edelman has been a bargain for the Patriots.
Brady called Edelman a “spaz” earlier in the season. “Minitron” is a better nickname than “Spaz.” Anything is a better nickname than “Spaz.”
