Lionel Messi Captains World XI Soccer Team, Takes on Aliens in Samsung GALAXY 11 Commercial (Video)

It would take an alien invasion to get Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to team up. Fortunately, the good people at Samsung have made it happen.

The two soccer superstars are part of a World XI team, which is assembled to take on invading aliens in a high-stakes game. Manager Franz Beckenbauer also selects Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao, Landon Donovan and Stephan El Shaarawy and others in the ultimate fantasy soccer draft.

The scenario is, of course, a fictional one. It’s part of Samsung’s campaign — named “Football Saves the Day” — which promotes the electronics company’s GALAXY line of products.

Beckenbauer uses a GALAXY device to summon soccer greats, and Earth’s inhabitants celebrate as each star agrees to play. The commercial ends with the team walking toward what we can only assume is a spaceship. It’s nice to see Ronaldo and Messi shelve their eternal rivalry for everyone’s sake.

Fans around the world can follow the GALAXY 11’s progress in the coming weeks, as Samsung will roll out more updates.
