In the wake of Jacoby Ellsbury‘s decision to sign with the Yankees, many in Boston are ranting about the center fielder being a traitor (or “trader,” according to far too many Twitter users) for accepting an exorbitant amount of money to join the enemy.

One of the city’s most recognizable movie stars doesn’t share those sentiments, however.

When asked about the Ellsbury signing by TMZ on Wednesday, Mark Wahlberg said he was happy for the man who helped bring two World Series trophies to Boston.

“We got the ring already, let him get his money,” Wahlberg said with a smirk. “I’m very happy for him. He’s a great guy, played fantastic. He deserves it.”

Though the Red Sox now have a void to fill in center field, the Departed star was pleased to know that their second baseman will be remaining in Boston for the foreseeable future.

“At least they didn’t take [Dustin] Pedroia,” he said.
