As the newest member of Hockey East, the Notre Dame men’s hockey team will get its first taste of Frozen Fenway when it takes on longtime football rival Boston College as part of a Jan. 4 doubleheader.

Most teams commemorate the opportunity to play on the Red Sox’ home field by trotting out special uniforms — usually with an old-school feel — and the Fighting Irish did just that on Tuesday, unveiling the blue sweater they will wear against BC.

The jersey features gold striping, with the traditional “ND” logo on the chest and a shamrock on each shoulder. The “IRISH” wordmark across the front of the sweater is written in Old English font, which, according to the school, is a nod to the Red Sox’ jersey lettering.

Boston University used a similar idea on its uniforms for the inaugural Frozen Fenway back in 2010.

Puck drop for the Irish-Eagles matchup is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with Providence and Merrimack (which also unveiled its uniforms for the occasion this week) hitting the Fenway ice first at 4 p.m.
