Jarrod SaltalamacchiaIt sounds as if Jarrod Saltalamacchia will soon take his talents to South Beach.

According to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, the Marlins are closing in on a three-year, $21 million deal with Saltalamacchia. A deal is not official, but multiple reports have surfaced linking Saltalamacchia to the Marlins, and Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan is hearing that the two sides might come to terms within the next 24 hours.

Passan reports that the deal is worth around $22 million, so the final dollar figure is somewhat unclear. It’s interesting that the Marlins are guaranteeing the 28-year-old catcher a third year, though, as it was reported earlier in the day Tuesday that Miami was offering a two-year contract with a third-year club option.

Saltalamacchia is coming off a career year in which he hit .273 with 14 home runs, 65 RBIs and a .804 OPS. The Red Sox reportedly signed A.J. Pierzynski, though, all but ending Salty’s tenure in Boston.
