Jeremy Lin’s NBA career famously began with the point guard never quite knowing if he had a home. His time in Houston, which was supposed to be his place to settle in, is continuing that trend.
The Rockets are working hard to find a deal for big man Omer Asik, and those talks include Houston offering Lin in a trade, according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.com. Houston has made its intentions clear to other clubs, but the problem continues to be the one the Rockets faced this summer when looking to move Lin after the acquisition of franchise centerpiece Dwight Howard: Other teams may not want him.
“I’m not sure there are many, if any, takers for him right now,” one executive said, according to Berger.
While Lin was a hot commodity in free agency after his fast rise with the Knicks in 2012, he’s considered no more than a capable — and expensive — point guard now. The Rockets signed Lin for three years and $25 million heading into the 2012-2013 season, with the final year of the contract (next season) carrying a $15 million payout. Houston was willing to pay extra for the marketable player, but other teams aren’t jumping to absorb such a contract.
Lin has missed time this year with a knee injury and is now dealing with back spasms. He’s averaged 14.3 points and 4.2 assists a game this season as a cog in Houston’s high-powered offense.
