FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots could be keeping their offensive coordinator after all.
Josh McDaniels might not be interested in the recently open Cleveland Browns head-coaching position, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Rapoport noted that McDaniels “already leapt to one less-than-ideal spot” when he took the head-coaching position in Denver in 2009.
McDaniels might not want to leave the stability he has built in New England, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady had glowing remarks about McDaniels on his weekly appearance on WEEI on Monday, calling his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach “the best offensive coach I could ever imagine.”
Other Patriots players, however, weren’t talking about the rumors. Wide receiver Danny Amendola, who played under McDaniels in St. Louis, said, “I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about” when asked about the coach possibly leaving.
The Browns are “pushing to interview” McDaniels, according to Rapoport. The earliest they could do so is Jan. 5, though “nothing firm” is set up.
