So aiming low might not be all its cracked up to be after all.
Rob Gronkowski suffered a torn ACL on Sunday when Browns safety T.J. Ward delivered a vicious hit to his legs midway through the second half. The hit, while clean by NFL standards, will likely land Gronkowski on injured reserve for the rest of the season, but it also left him with a concussion, according to Pro Football Talk.
Gronkowski suffered a “slight” concussion as a result of Ward’s hit, according to PFT. On the play, Gronkowski fell hard to the Gillette Stadium turf, slamming his head on the ground.
Concussions have become a huge issue for the NFL of late, leading the league to outlaw head shots and even hand out penalties or fines for blows to the head. That mandate has caused defenders to aim lower, though, leading to knee and ankle injuries. However, if Gronkowski is any example, it seems that aiming low doesn’t eliminate concussion problems altogether.
