Earlier reports stated Houston’s desire to deal Asik, who has become disgruntled with his situation since the Rockets signed Dwight Howard over the summer, by Thursday.

Several teams were reportedly in talks with Houston general manager Daryl Morey over the last week regarding the Turkish big man, with the Celtics and 76ers rumored to be the front-runners. One reported offer included Boston sending Jeff Green to Cleveland in a three-team deal that to would bring Asik to Boston, and another involved shipping Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round pick to Houston.

A report Wednesday by the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett, however, stated that the Celtics were no more than “spectators” in the talks surrounding Asik, and Morey reportedly ended those talks for good a day later.

Asik missed his seventh straight game Wednesday night due to a thigh injury. In 17 contests this season, he’s averaging 4.4 points and 6.4 rebounds.
