The Bengals have been flying under the radar more so than their AFC counterparts this season, but Cincinnati certainly made a statement in their win over Indianapolis on Sunday, defeating the Colts 42-28. The win vaulted the Bengals ahead of Indianapolis for the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs, and cemented their place in the league as a team to be reckoned with.
The current No. 1 seed, the Denver Broncos, have coasted through a solid season with Peyton Manning playing like Peyton Manning, but Denver’s defensive lapses could prove costly down the line. While the Broncos are widely thought as the NFL’s top team, their only two losses came from the Colts and the Patriots — two squads that the Bengals beat at home.
The Colts locked up the AFC South on Sunday, courtesy of the Broncos beating the Titans, but the struggling division champs will have somewhat of an uphill battle attempting to make a deep playoff run. The Colts got flat-out dominated by the Bengals on Sunday, rushing for only 63 yards and allowing 430 yards on defense. A likely No. 4 seed, the Colts will have to go back to the drawing board if they want to surprise anyone come playoff time.
