Adrian Peterson To Have Surgery For Third Straight Offseason

adrian petersonAdrian Peterson has gone under the knife each of the last two offseasons. He’ll hope the third time is the charm.

Peterson, who completed another 1,000-yard rushing season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2013, will have groin surgery Thursday, according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson. He had ACL surgery after the 2011 season and surgery to repair a sports hernia last offseason.

Peterson, 28, has bounced back from those surgeries the last two seasons in incredible fashion, though. He led the NFL in rushing in 2012, running for 2,097 yards (second-most all time) and 12 touchdowns. He finished fifth in rushing in 2012, with 1,266 yards and 10 touchdowns in just 14 games.

If his last two seasons are any indication, Peterson should have another breakout campaign in 2014, even as he inches closer to that 30-year-old threshold — he turns 29 on March 21 — that signals the end of most running backs’ careers.
