Kyle Okposo wasn’t selected to the United States men’s hockey roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. His omission sparked a fierce debate because he certainly was deserving of a spot on the 25-man squad.

The New York Islanders forward turned his frustration into motivation Thursday night and gave his team a much-needed win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks with an overtime goal. Okposo now ranks ninth in the NHL in scoring with 42 points (16 goals, 26 assists).

The Islanders crowd showed its support for Okposo after the overtime goal by chanting “USA, USA, USA!”
