AHL Goalie Fight: John Gibson, Jeff Deslauriers Throw Down At Center Ice (Video)

Goalie fights are the best.

There was a netminder scrap Friday night in an AHL game between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Norfolk Admirals. The two combatants, Norfolk’s John Gibson and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Jeff Deslauriers, got things going after they bumped into each other at center ice.

That little run-in was far from accidental, of course. Deslauriers wasn’t about to just let Gibson skate by at center ice as the Anaheim Ducks prospect was on his way to his net. Deslauriers bumped Gibson as he skated by, and that was apparently enough to set Gibson off. He jumped Deslauriers at center ice and unloaded a couple of punches before they both fell to the ice in a big mess of big pads.

The Ducks organization probably isn’t thrilled about its top goaltending prospects trying to fight, but judging by the reaction of Gibson’s teammates during and after the bout, they were pretty impressed.

Gibson got the last laugh, too, as he stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced for a 4-1 Norfolk win.
