Rajon RondoThe Boston Celtics announced that starting point guard Rajon Rondo won’t play in Wednesday night’s home game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Celtics haven’t played Rondo in the second game of back-to-backs since he returned to the lineup after missing significant time while recovering from ACL surgery. The Celtics lost 114-88 to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.

Rondo has played in six games this season, and he’s averaging 6.7 points, 5.7 assists and 3.8 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per contest.

Rookie point guard Paul Pressey will start in Rondo’s absence. The former University of Missouri star scored a career-high 20 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 22, but he’s had 15 total points in the three games since. Jerryd Bayless, who just returned to the Celtics’ lineup after a brief absence with an injury, could see minutes at point guard, too.

The Celtics also will be without shooting guard Avery Bradley, who’s dealing with an ankle injury. According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Bradley “is getting close to returning.”
