If the New England Patriots were looking for some bulletin board material, they got some from Denver Broncos safety Mike Adams. The defensive back had some slightly disparaging remarks about the Patriots receiver when asked to compare Edelman to Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker.

“I can’t compare the two because Wes is — he’s something special,” Adams said to Broncos reporters on Monday. “He can jive up the ball and then speed out and have you off balance. Edelman, he doesn’t do that. He’s a one-speed guy. He doesn’t have the same ability or the quickness that Wes has in the slot. I guess that is the main difference between them. But I don’t know if they use him the same as they used Wes because they’re totally different players.”

Adams is right that Edelman and Welker are two different players. Welker spent 84 percent of his receiving snaps in the slot while Edelman played inside 49 percent of the time, according to Pro Football Focus.

Welker had 73 catches for 778 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season; Edelman had 1,056 yards on 105 receptions and six scores.
