The Boston Bruins lost an inspirational friend Friday night as Sam Berns, 17, lost his battle with progeria, a rapid aging disease.
With his positive attitude and incredible outlook on life, Berns won over the hearts of anyone he met, and that was especially true with the B’s. Berns loved his hockey team, and, as NESN’s Dale Arnold put it, “The Bruins loved him right back.”
In November, the Bruins hosted Progeria Awareness Night, and Berns served as the guest of honor, watching warmups from the bench and dropping the ceremonial first puck after talking with many of the players.
Before dropping the puck in San Jose on Saturday, NESN and the Bruins honored Berns. Check it out in the video above.
