Apparently, Doc Rivers doesn’t limit his game film to basketball.

During Rivers’ postgame news conference after his Los Angeles Clippers downed the Charlotte Bobcats on New Year’s Day, the head coach took a break from the X’s and O’s to heap praise on Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, whom he had watched play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl the previous night.

“I’ve never watched a college player, honestly, more in my life, in one year,” Rivers said. “I don’t care what he does next year, I just want to see him play. Go back to college and play, go to the pros — I just want to see him play. He’s fun to watch.”

Manziel was at his best in what likely was his final game as a collegian, completing 30 of 38 passes for 382 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for another score to lead the Aggies to a 52-48 come-from-behind victory over Duke in the most thrilling game of bowl season so far.

Manziel almost certainly will make the leap to the NFL next season, and many project him to be a top-10 draft pick. Unfortunately for Doc, L.A. lacks an NFL team, but there’s a strong possibility Manziel will land up the coast in Oakland.
