Three players are heading to Cooperstown this year.
Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas will be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. All three players were on the ballot for the first time.
Maddux, Glavine and Thomas will join managers Bobby Cox, Joe Torre and Tony La Russa, who were voted in by the Veterans Committee last month.
Players need 75 percent of the vote to be inducted into Cooperstown. Maddux received 97.2 percent, Glavine received 91.9 percent and Thomas received 83.7 percent. Craig Biggio (74.8 percent) just missed the cut in his second year of eligibility.
Mike Piazza received 62.2 percent of the vote, and Jack Morris, in his 15th and final year on the ballot, finished with 61.5 percent of the vote. Jeff Bagwell (54.3 percent), Tim Raines (46.1 percent) and Roger Clemens (35.4 percent) were the next highest finishers.
Maddux, known for his impeccable control, was one of the greatest pitchers of his generation. He won four consecutive National League Cy Young awards from 1992 to 1995 and won 15 games or more in 18 seasons. Maddux, who also won 18 Gold Glove awards, finished his career with 355 victories.
Glavine, who played with Maddux in Atlanta, won 305 games over the course of his 22-year career. The 10-time All-Star won Cy Young awards in 1991 and 1998.
Thomas, who owns a career .301 average and .419 on-base percentage, is considered one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time. He slugged 521 homers and won back-to-back American League MVP awards in 1993 and 1994.
