James van Riemsdyk added a nifty baseball element to the hockey game that was being played in a football stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Toronto forward, who previously represented the Philadelphia Flyers in two Winter Classics, got his team on the board late in the second period when he swatted the puckĀ from the air and just over Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard‘s shoulder.

After playing at Fenway Park in 2010 and Citizens Bank Park in 2012, it really should be no surprise that JVR drew inspiration from American’s pastime when taking the ice at the University of Michigan’s Big House, but it was impressive, nonetheless.

Check out van Riemsdyk battling the elements and batting the puck in below, with a stick tap to SB Nation.
