Johnny BoychukThe Bruins can’t really afford to lose any defensemen right now, but some things are bigger than hockey.

That appears to be the case for Boston D-man Johnny Boychuk. The B’s announced Friday afternoon that Boychuk is heading back to Boston from San Jose for personal reasons.

The personal reasons for Boychuk’s return to Boston aren’t officially known, but his wife is pregnant with twins and had a due date for January. So, it would at least seem like that is the case.

Boychuk won’t return for the Bruins’ game against the Sharks on Saturday night in San Jose. The club does have Kevan Miller with them, and it would make sense that he would be inserted into the lineup for the game against the Sharks.
