Welcome back, Johnny Boychuk.
After returning to Boston to see the birth of his twin daughters during the last leg of the Bruins’ West Coast road trip, the tough defenseman came away with the play of the game Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Boychuk unleashed the hit to end all hits on James van Riemsdyk late in the third period. Boychuk’s hip check rocked the Leafs forward so hard that van Riemsdyk’s glove went flying into the stands. Moments later, a couple of Bruins fans threw the glove back onto the ice, like an opposing team’s home run ball at Wrigley Field.
