Andrea Bargnani Fails Miserably On Dunk Attempt, Tears Ligament (GIF)

Andrea Bargnani might have surpassed himself for the New York Knicks lowlight of the year.

The 7-footer, who famously put up an ill-advised 3-pointer earlier this season when holding the ball would have sealed a Knicks win, embarrassed himself again in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

Despite having Carmelo Anthony — far and away the Knicks’ best player — wide open for a three at the elbow, Bargnani instead tried to sky clear over two 76ers defenders while driving to the hoop. He was unsuccessful, of course, and was fortunate not to snap his arm in two as he went down hard in the paint.

Update: Scratch that last part. The Knicks have since revealed that Bargnani has a torn ligament in his left elbow, which will sideline him indefinitely.

Bargnani did manage to score 20 points in the game, his highest scoring output since Dec. 14, but a 34-point night by Evan Turner carried the Sixers, who handed the Knicks their fifth straight loss.
