The 2013 World Series trophy is making the rounds, and Red Sox pitchers Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa had the honor of taking the hardware overseas.
Uehara and Tazawa traveled to Japan, stopping to visit U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy on Tuesday as they shared the trophy with baseball fans in the country. As Kennedy notes in her Twitter bio, she is a big Red Sox fan, and she thanked the right-handers for their roles in helping the Red Sox win the championship.
‘‘This is a great event,’’ Kennedy said, via Boston.com. ‘‘Last fall’s victory would not have happened without these two players here tonight.’’
Earlier in the day, Uehara and Tazawa presented Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with a Red Sox jersey and “talked baseball” with the Japanese leader.
